System Safety Engineer

📍 Huntsville, AL (Onsite) | 🛡️ Secret Clearance Required (TS Desired) | Full-time, Direct-hire

About the Role

We are seeking a System Safety Engineer to support mission-critical programs focused on missile defense and systems integration. In this role, you will apply safety engineering principles to ensure hazard mitigation is embedded early in the design and development process. You will support MDA programs and contribute to system engineering efforts, product integration, and team mentoring.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and apply program safety plans, policies, and engineering guidance

  • Support MDA programs and collaborate with other engineers on system-level safety and integration

  • Lead or contribute to the generation of capability specifications and safety documentation

  • Identify and mitigate system hazards through rigorous design analysis and technical recommendations

  • Participate in System Safety Working Groups and interface with MDA working-level counterparts

  • Train and support less-experienced engineers on system safety and systems engineering principles

  • Review technical documents to ensure compliance with safety standards and customer expectations

Required Qualifications
  • Background in Systems Engineering with specialization in System and Software Safety

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E and hazard identification techniques

  • Experience analyzing designs to meet system safety requirements and eliminate hazards

  • Ability to produce safety documents such as SAR, SRA, SSPP , and similar artifacts

  • Experience in software and hardware systems integration

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • SECRET clearance required , TS preferred

  • Ability to travel as needed

Education & Experience
  • Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience , OR

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience , or equivalent combination

  • Demonstrated ability to define and refine system-level needs into integrated software/hardware solutions

Certifications & Clearance
  • Active Secret clearance required , Top Secret desired
