Research Associate (Focus on Patient-Oriented Research)I. Position Summary: The mission of the Frailty Research Program, led by Dr. Dae Kim, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, is to improve care of older adults with frailty by generating high-quality evidence, training future clinicians and researchers, and changing health systems and policy. The research associate will work together with Dr. Kim and other investigators to conduct research projects about frailty and other geriatric syndromes by helping patient-oriented research and other research-related administrative activities, which focuses on the design, execution, and analysis of research studies involving older adults.A competitive candidate will be a goal-driven, independent individual with a bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines with 2-5 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree in relevant disciplines who has the highest level of integrity, strong organizational skills, verbal communication, and writing skills. Relevant disciplines include (not limited to) geriatrics, gerontology, epidemiology, data science (AI and machine learning), health services research, biostatistics, nutrition, and rehabilitation science. Prior experience in project management, IRB submission, study coordination, quantitative data analysis (e.g., data from surveys, cohort studies, or clinical trials), or qualitative research is required. Experience in interacting with older adults in the clinic, hospital, or nursing home settings is desirable. Candidates who are willing to commit at least 2 years are preferred. II. Position Responsibilities: Prepare research protocols, IRB applications/correspondence, study instruments (e.g., surveys), study database (e.g., REDCap), and data documentation Organize research meeting and summarize meeting minutes Facilitate and coordinate research activities among older adult participants and collaborators (e.g., surgeons, physical therapists, or dietitian) ·Collect data through interviews with research participants and medical record review ·Perform data entry, management, and analysis ·Reviews medical literature and participate in scientific writing (research papers and grant applications) Participates in scientific conferences and makes contributions to scientific journals Exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant research project matters by evaluating and comparing possible courses of action and making a decision or recommendation after considering the various possibilities The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position. Completes special projects as assigned.IV. Qualifications: B.S. degree in a scientific discipline with 2-5 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree in relevant disciplines, including (not limited to) geriatrics, gerontology, epidemiology, data science (AI and machine learning), health services research, biostatistics, nutrition, and rehabilitation science Prior experience in project management, IRB submission, study coordination, quantitative data analysis (e.g., data from surveys, cohort studies, or clinical trials), or qualitative research Must have fundamental programming skills in SAS, R, Stata, Python, or similar programming language Must exhibit respect for participant confidentiality, excellent communication skills, careful attention to details, good organizational skills and ability to follow directions. Must demonstrate flexibility in regards to project demands, such as adapting to changes in schedules, coverage gaps, new technologies and unanticipated participant needs. Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor. Superb organizational skills. Must have solid analytical skills. Must be creative and proactive yet disciplined, discriminating and able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing. Must have ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle even difficult situations.
